Don’t you think this is so much prettier? Although it doesn’t fit on my screen I love the big blue sidebar.

Updated Facebook

FB has been pushing it’s updated look and fool for user groups this week. The new look of course has a ton of bugs, but I’ll be giving FB some time to shake out the quirks before I start the critique. Just to note: I’ve updated the cleanup stylesheet.

Funky AJAX commenting broken (again). Users aren’t that afraid of a page reload you know.

Fb screws up notifications with foreign languages (I’be seen on one screen English, Polish, Czech and German).

Clearing of FB clutter

To not just moan about fb’s many shortcomings I decided to do something (de)constructive and write a stylesheet that will dispose of most of FBs clutter.

Check it out (or download):

(NOTE: Updated 8-2-2010 for new Facebook look. Browse on GitHub for older stylesheet.)

How to install

In Safari go to Preferences > Advanced and select the above file as Stylesheet. In Firefox, search for a custom stylesheets extension and follow instructions.

Beware this is still beta, so if other sites look funky disable this stylesheet.

Result

Before: FB without custom css

After: FB with custom css

Yeah sure slap popup menus all over the page and then forget to role them up so that I can’t see the two most useful buttons on the page.

There is way too much junk on the Facebook site. This is a quick sketch of what I would remove to make it nice and happy again.

Also Facebook can now weigh all the way up to something like 1.5MB. Crazy.

Yeah right so now after 2 years of active posting you check if I’m not a freaking robot? What happened to this “FB identities are the closest related to real people” thing?

Also the funny thing: it asks me for a captcha when I’m spammig my own profile.
